January 20th, 2014 Encounter

Here is the website article we discussed last week and our resolution was to be more mindful of the healing and grace filled events occurring during the mass.

January 27th, 2014 Encounter

Thanks to all those participated in the Encounter — we missed those who couldn’t make it.  Below is the summary:

Our case study  was about a local man who took his own life, leaving behind a wife and daughter. His final note reaffirmed his love for his family but could no longer deal with the stresses of life. He cited his pride and ego prevented him from getting help.

We discussed the Church’s teaching on suicide by reading 2280 in the CCC.
Chapter 44 in the Regnum Christi Handbook provided encouraging words of our mission.
The following scripture readings were referenced:
Philippians 4:6
James 2:17-18

Resolution: We resolved to develop a relationship with an acquaintance who may be suffering and offer them the compassion, understanding and hope that Christ would.

Side note — the case study originally planned was shelved and could be used another week.  It was :

3. What truths can we find in the Catechism and the gospels associated with this case.
4. What truths and lessons from the Regnum Christi Handbook can we apply.
5. How would the world see this case.
6. Potential resolutions.

Summary Results from the Encounter:

This evening’s Encounter highlighted the great work former NFL quarterback and Christian, Jon Kitna, is doing with inner city high school students as a math teacher and football coach.
Our resolution is to look for opportunities to show the virtue of justice (the respect they deserve) to others.
